For Europe, 2023 was one of the warmest years on record and the average sea surface temperature across the continent was the highest ever. Adverse health impacts related to extreme weather and climate events are rising and the Alps saw exceptional glacier ice loss. These effects can be especially pronounced in river basin areas, where sea level rises can result in the displacement of inhabitants and significant infrastructure damage. Moreover, cities must prioritize climate adaptation measures to safeguard against future environmental challenges. This UNLEASH Hack aims for advancements in innovation, infrastructure, and climate change strategies within European cities across river basin areas.
The Hack is scheduled to take place in Autumn 2024
