Infosys Offsets Carbon Emissions from UNLEASH Labs

As part of its continued efforts to create a sustainable world, Infosys has offset the carbon emissions of two global sustainability-led, innovation events of UNLEASH, a non-profit organization with a mission to get the youth to create innovative and scalable solutions to help reach the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The two events, UNLEASH Greenland (in Nuuk, Greenland from 20th to 27th August 2022) and the UNLEASH Global Innovation Lab 2022 (at Infosys Mysuru from 3rd to 10th December 2022) saw a combined participation of around 1,200 youth from around the globe. Infosys was able to offset carbon emissions of these large-scale events through its existing pool of community-based projects that are registered with Gold Standard. Infosys implements carbon offset projects in rural India that generate carbon credits in addition to positively impacting 11 of the 17 SDGs.

Approximately 1,060 tCO2e (Tonnes of Carbon Dioxide equivalent) — primarily from participant travel, food, and goods and services procurement — were offset from these two events. Furthermore, the associated emissions at Infosys Mysuru, mainly operations related (electricity, diesel gensets, etc.,), will be neutralized at the end of FY23.

The Infosys Mysuru campus is known for its greenery, super-efficient buildings, being a zero-discharge site for wastewater and has excellent rainwater harvesting initiatives. About 10 artificial ponds have been created in the campus to help store rainwater and enhance the ground water table. With 180,000 trees, the campus provides a thriving biodiversity of fauna. Nearly 85% of power consumed at Infosys Mysuru campus is through renewable energy sources.

Infosys was an early mover in setting and achieving ESG goals and has been a proponent of responsible business for decades. Infosys became carbon neutral in 2020, 30 years ahead of the timeline set by the Paris Agreement and has now aggressively progressed on its commitments and efforts towards realizing its ESG 2030 vision, thereby supporting transition to a low carbon world.
