UNLEASH Hacks Uganda focuses on creating safer and more organized homes and communities for the individuals that stay in urban slums. This is because the burden of disasters, conflict, crime, and violence falls disproportionately on the poor in addition to the limited access to basic services such as water, drainage, handwashing facilities, sewage treatment, regular waste collection, etc. With the number of migrants from rural to urban parts of Uganda increasing by the year, it is important that even the lowest income-earning individuals have standard, regulated living conditions which include better roofing, proper drainage, and better hygiene in order to better their lives, manage the effects of urbanization and achieve the SDG 11 targets.
The Hack is scheduled to take place on October 26 and 27.
