UNLEASH

UNLEASH Global
Innovation Lab
Singapore 2018

In May 2018, UNLEASH invited 1,000 Talents from all over the world to create real, scalable solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals in Singapore.

They spent one week going through a facilitated process of innovation, uniquely tailored by UNLEASH and Deloitte. Alongside the innovation process, they explored the city of Singapore and attended inspirational talks by several Singaporean and international speakers, so that they would unlock new perspectives and enrich their SDG solutions.

Our Innovation Process

In our programs, we use the unique UNLEASH Innovation Methodology to enable young people to translate sustainability challenges into impactful solutions for the SDGs. Our methodology is built around a collaborative innovation process, based on human-centered design principles. In a nutshell, human-centered design starts with focusing on the people you want to design for and ends with tangible products or services, developed to suit their specific needs. The process follows five steps:

1_Methodology
Problem Framing
Defining a problem based on user needs and clear insights
2_Methodology
Ideation

Brainstorming and selecting ideas to solve the problem

3_Methodology
Prototyping
Creating simple versions of the idea to understand how it will work in real life
4_Methodology
Testing

Testing the solution with users, learning, and adapting

5_Methodology
Implementing
Planning and launching impactful solutions

Tracks

In UNLEASH Singapore, Talents worked on 8 different tracks:

Zero Hunger (SDG2)

About 30% of the food produced every year is lost or wasted. To reach SDG2, food waste is just one of the areas that need new solutions. Within the goal are targets to ensure all people, particularly those in vulnerable positions, such as infants, have access to nutritious and sufficient food all year round. Another target is to end all forms of malnutrition.

On the production side, the target is to double the agricultural productivity and incomes of small-scale food producers.

Ending hunger demands sustainable food production systems and resilient agricultural practices. One aspect of that is maintaining the genetic diversity of plants and animals, which is crucial for agriculture and food production.
