There are many varied initiatives focused on reaching Inuit youth to try to improve mental health, particularly lowering suicide rates. They have had varying levels of success, but generally struggle with low youth attendance and engaging the Inuit community. It is essential to allow Inuit communities to establish their own initiatives, rather than them being prescribed by external authorities. This Inuit-led recurring symposium will bring together all the Inuit grass-roots initiatives so that they can share their challenges and success, learn from one another and give Inuit peoples a platform to drive and guide the further development of these initiatives for themselves, by themselves.
