UNLEASH is going to India in 2022!!!
Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, and Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Shri Narendra Modi, has unveiled that the next edition of UNLEASH will take place in India. The two Prime Ministers delivered a joint statement noting that UNLEASH will be launched in the state of Karnataka.
UNLEASH is a global innovation lab that brings together 1,000 carefully selected young talents from around the world to collaborate on ideas and solutions for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNLEASH started in Denmark in 2017 and moved to Singapore in 2018 and Shenzhen, China, in 2019. During COVID-19, UNLEASH launched a series of digital activities to continue to build capacity among global youth and launch SDG-solutions amidst the pandemic. Throughout all programs, almost 500 talented youth from India have joined the UNLEASH movement – more than any other country.
Karnataka is an ideal location for technology and innovation:
“Karnataka is known to be the most Innovative State in India and we are delighted to host, the UNLEASH community and its ambassadors from across the World. These innovation labs are critical drivers to encourage in bringing in innovative minds together, to come up with sustainable solutions for the future” said Dr.C.N Ashwath Narayan, IT Minister Govt of Karnataka.
The innovation lab will primarily take place at Infosys’ Mysore campus:
“Innovation and responsible business have always been at the core of what we do at Infosys. Infosys Mysore is the world’s largest corporate university, and a melting pot of innovation, with thousands of young minds learning and experimenting together. I am delighted to welcome the UNLEASH team, along with a unique cohort of bright minds from across the world to join this thriving community of youngsters at our campus”, said Mr. Nandan Nilekani, Infosys Co-founder and Chairman, who also sits on UNLEASH’s Global Advisory Board.
After having conducted innovation labs in Denmark, Singapore, and Shenzhen, it is only natural that the 2022 iteration goes to India and Karnataka:
“The Department of Electronics, IT,Bt and S&T is honoured to collaborate and host UNLEASH 2022. Through our Global Innovation Alliance initiative, we have interacted with innovation hubs of the world and we look forward to contributing and finding innovative solutions in addressing the SDG goals” said Dr.EV Ramana Reddy, ACS, Govt of Karnataka.
Over the past two years, UNLEASH has introduced a series of new programs. These programs have expanded UNLEASH’s reach, but the annual innovation lab will remain at its core:
“The core of UNLEASH has always been the annual innovation lab. I’m delighted that we are now able to once again bring young talents from around the world together to celebrate diversity and nurture innovative ideas. When travelling to India, I experience a truly unique ecosystem of sustainability minded entrepreneurs, companies, and organizations, and I am beyond pleased that UNLEASH is going to India”, says Chairman of UNLEASH, Professor Flemming Besenbacher.
The Innovation Lab will tentatively take place from 26th November to December 4th, 2022. The final dates will only be confirmed at a later stage with full consideration of the COVID-19 situation.
